Randall Throckmorton is a Minnesota-based vocalist, composer, and instrumentalist. His music draws on Tin Pan Alley, early folk traditions, and British psychedelia. His work has a way of carrying you back in time, built around earnestly crooned Victrola-era melodies, evocative chords, and vivid lyrics.
Throckmorton's musical path has run through a wide circle of Twin Cities projects: as an original songwriter for the Deadly Nightshade Family Singers (Krakovia, 1999; Plain Brown Suit, 2001); as a vocalist and banjo ukulele player for Dreamland Faces, including performances for Minnesota Public Radio's Talking Volumes and Vaudevillian Stages; as a longtime crooner with Le Cirque Rouge Cabaret & Burlesque; and as a member of the MinnRoast Players from 2017 through 2020. Randall majored in Music Theory and Composition at the University of Minnesota. As a composer he won the Eric Stokes song contest for his original composition “The Grouse,” later performed with Zeitgeist. Over the years his work has drawn coverage from City Pages, Minnesota Monthly, Pioneer Press, Pulse TC, and Pitchfork.com, among others.
Most recently, he appeared as a guest vocalist throughout Lambchop's Punching the Clown, and joined the band for a run of Minneapolis shows in support of the record.
Today he fronts The Throckmorton Trio alongside multi-instrumentalists Christopher Thompson and Tom Wadzinski.
